Why This Report Isn’t Just Another PDF — It’s Your Due Diligence Tool
Our B Corp Certification Report is not a marketing brochure. It is a 42-page, third-party-verified assessment conducted by B Lab between March 12 and June 8, 2024, using the B Impact Assessment v5.0. Every metric — from greenhouse gas emissions per employee (0.87 tCO₂e) to living wage gap analysis across 14 supplier tiers — has been validated by B Lab’s independent audit team. Unlike self-reported ESG summaries, this document includes line-item evidence: payroll records for 97% of full-time staff, certified organic cotton sourcing documentation from 3 farms in Gujarat, India, and verifiable community investment receipts totaling $214,680 in 2023. You can download the full report directly from our secure portal — no email gate, no cookie wall, no lead capture. We built this transparency into our legal operating structure under Delaware Public Benefit Corporation statutes, effective January 1, 2023.
What’s Inside the 2024 Certification Report (Page-by-Page Breakdown)
The report contains five core sections aligned with B Lab’s impact categories. Each section includes scored metrics, evidence tags, auditor commentary, and comparative benchmarks. Section 1 (Governance, pp. 5–12) details our board composition: 40% independent directors, 100% trained on fiduciary duty to stakeholders (not just shareholders), and binding bylaws requiring annual public disclosure of material negative impacts. Section 2 (Workers, pp. 13–21) covers compensation data: median base salary of $78,420, 100% employer-paid health insurance for all full- and part-time staff (including 27 contractors), and verified 100% compliance with ILO Core Conventions across Tier 1–3 suppliers.
Environmental Metrics You Can Verify
Our environmental performance was assessed using ISO 14064-1:2018 methodology. The report documents total Scope 1 & 2 emissions at 412.6 metric tons CO₂e — a 23.7% reduction from our 2022 baseline (539.8 tCO₂e). All electricity used at our Portland headquarters and Brooklyn fulfillment center is 100% matched via 32,400 kWh of certified wind RECs (Green-e Energy certified, certificate #GE-2024-11893). Water use intensity stands at 1.8 L per unit shipped (measured across 2023’s 84,300 units), down from 2.6 L in 2022. These figures were cross-checked against utility bills and meter logs submitted to B Lab’s verification team.
Community Investment That Meets B Lab’s Rigorous Thresholds
We exceeded B Lab’s minimum community score (40 points) by delivering 68.2 points — driven by three audited initiatives: (1) $127,500 donated to BIPOC-led climate justice nonprofits (verified via grant agreements and IRS Form 990s); (2) 1,842 hours of paid volunteer time logged by employees (tracked in Benevity platform, audited); and (3) 100% of our retail partners required to meet B Lab’s Community Standard — meaning all 37 brick-and-mortar locations must provide living wages, offer inclusive hiring practices, and contribute ≥1% of local revenue to neighborhood development funds. Our average community score among partners is 82.4 — higher than the sector median of 61.1 for certified B Corps in retail.
How We Scored Against Industry Peers (Verified 2024 Data)
B Lab publishes anonymized aggregate scores, but our report includes direct comparisons against three peer B Corps using identical assessment versions and audit cycles. The table below reflects final verified scores from each company’s most recent certification cycle (all completed between Q1–Q2 2024).
| Category | Our Score | Patagonia (2024) | Ben & Jerry’s (2024) | Seventh Generation (2024) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Governance | 32.4 | 29.1 | 27.8 | 31.0 |
| Workers | 48.6 | 45.2 | 43.7 | 46.9 |
| Community | 68.2 | 52.4 | 58.3 | 63.7 |
| Environment | 41.9 | 44.0 | 39.2 | 40.1 |
| Customers | 35.7 | 33.5 | 36.0 | 34.2 |
| Total B Impact Score | 226.8 | 204.2 | 201.0 | 215.9 |
Our total score of 226.8 places us in the top 6.3% of all 6,742 certified B Corporations globally as of July 2024 (B Lab Global Registry, verified July 12, 2024). Notably, our community score exceeds Patagonia’s by 15.8 points — attributable to our mandatory partner standards and hyperlocal reinvestment model, which directs 72% of community grants to organizations operating within 25 miles of our distribution centers.
Supply Chain Verification: No Black Boxes, Just Batch Numbers
Section 4 (Environment) of the report contains granular supply chain disclosures — rare in public certifications. For our flagship organic cotton tote bag, we list every tier: Tier 1 (cutting/sewing: SustainLoom Textiles, Tamil Nadu, India), Tier 2 (weaving: FairWeave Co-op, Maharashtra), Tier 3 (ginning: GreenHarvest Ginning Ltd., Gujarat), and Tier 4 (cotton farming: 3 certified farms — KisanVikas Collective, ShreeKrishna AgriCoop, and EarthRoot Farmers Alliance). Each entity provided B Lab–accepted evidence: SA8000 certificates (SustainLoom, 2023), Fair Trade USA audit reports (FairWeave, April 2024), and organic certification documents from Control Union (Gujarat ginner, certificate #CU-IN-ORG-2024-7731). Batch-level traceability is embedded in our ERP system: QR codes on every product link to its unique batch ID, which maps to raw material lot numbers, energy consumption per unit, and water usage per kilogram of fabric.
Worker Well-Being Beyond the Paycheck
Our Workers section (pp. 13–21) goes beyond salary reporting. We disclose: (1) 100% of full-time staff received ≥120 hours of professional development in 2023 (average: 168 hours), tracked via Cornerstone OnDemand LMS; (2) mental health support utilization rate of 71% (vs. industry avg. 38%, per 2023 SHRM Workplace Benefits Survey); (3) 100% of frontline staff completed trauma-informed service training (certified by National Council for Behavioral Health); and (4) zero incidents of OSHA-recordable workplace injury in 2023 across 3 facilities. All data was validated through HRIS exports, third-party training provider attestations, and facility inspection reports dated October 2023.
What Didn’t Make the Cut — And Why That Matters
Transparency includes acknowledging gaps. Our report explicitly lists four areas where we fell short of internal targets — and details corrective action plans with deadlines. First, our Scope 3 emissions inventory covered only 68% of upstream spend (target: 90% by end-2024); we’re now piloting a supplier carbon accounting module with Normative (implementation scheduled for August 2024). Second, our gender pay ratio stands at 0.94 (women earn 94% of men’s median base salary), below our 0.98 target; we launched a compensation equity review with Syndio in May 2024, with adjustments due by September 30. Third, only 41% of Tier 4 suppliers are certified fair trade (target: 75%); we’re co-funding certification costs for 12 additional farms through the Fair Trade Premium Matching Program. Fourth, our plastic packaging remains at 12% recycled content (target: 30%); we’ve sourced FDA-compliant rPET film from PureCycle Technologies (batch #PC-RPET-2024-0881), with full rollout by Q4 2024.
Auditor Notes: What B Lab’s Team Verified (and Flagged)
B Lab’s audit team issued two formal findings — both resolved prior to certification issuance. Finding #1: Inconsistency between payroll records and claimed PTO accrual rates for 3 seasonal warehouse staff. Resolved: Revised accrual logic deployed in ADP Workforce Now on May 17, 2024; retroactive payouts issued ($1,243.80 total). Finding #2: Missing subcontractor safety documentation for one logistics vendor (FreightFirst Logistics, NJ). Resolved: Vendor submitted OSHA 300 logs and MSHA certification on May 29; added to our Supplier Risk Dashboard. These notes appear verbatim on pages 39–40, alongside B Lab’s confirmation of resolution. No unresolved findings remain.
How to Use This Report — Beyond Compliance
This isn’t just for investors or procurement officers. Educators use it in MBA sustainability courses (e.g., University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School assigned our report in Spring 2024). Journalists cite it in investigative pieces — The Guardian’s June 2024 exposé on greenwashing in eco-apparel named our report as a ‘gold standard for verifiability’. Students analyze our environmental metrics in capstone projects: MIT Sloan’s 2023 cohort modeled our decarbonization pathway using our disclosed emission factors and capital expenditure plans. Even competitors reference it — Eileen Fisher’s 2024 Impact Report cites our community partner standards as inspiration for their new Retailer Equity Framework.
For your own due diligence, start with Appendix A (Evidence Index), which maps every claim to its source document type, date, and page number. Then cross-reference with the B Impact Assessment’s public scoring rubric (available at bimpactassessment.net). Finally, compare our data points to industry benchmarks: the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index 4.0 average for mid-sized apparel brands is 29.1 on Environment — we scored 41.9. The U.S. Department of Labor’s 2023 Wage Gap Report shows national median female/male earnings ratio of 0.83 — ours is 0.94.

What’s Next: Our 2025 Recertification Roadmap
We’re already preparing for our next assessment, due June 2025. Key priorities include: (1) achieving 100% Scope 3 coverage using CDP Supply Chain data; (2) launching a worker-owned cooperative for our design studio (target launch: November 2024); (3) installing onsite solar at our Brooklyn facility (42 kW array, projected completion: March 2025); and (4) publishing our first full-value-chain living wage audit, covering all 217 Tier 1–4 entities. All commitments are codified in our 2024–2027 Public Benefit Purpose Statement, filed with the State of Delaware (Document #DE-2024-PBP-088122).
Unlike many B Corps that treat recertification as a compliance exercise, we use the biennial assessment as a strategic planning tool. Our 2024–2025 R&D budget allocates 18% specifically to impact innovation — double the industry average of 9% (per 2024 B Lab Benchmark Report). This funding supports three pilot programs: a closed-loop dyeing system reducing water use by 92% (in partnership with ColorZen), AI-powered logistics routing cutting delivery emissions by 14.3% (tested with Convoy’s platform), and regenerative agriculture partnerships expanding soil carbon sequestration across 1,200 acres of cotton farmland (verified via Indigo Ag’s satellite monitoring).
Our certification isn’t static. Since our initial 2021 certification, we’ve raised our minimum B Impact Score threshold from 80 to 95 — exceeding B Lab’s current requirement of 80. We did this because stakeholder expectations evolved. In 2023, 87% of surveyed customers said they’d pay ≥12% more for products with independently verified social and environmental impact — up from 63% in 2021 (source: our annual Brand Trust Survey, n=4,218, margin of error ±1.5%). That’s why we don’t just meet the bar — we help raise it.
Every number in this report reflects real operations, real people, and real accountability. When you download it, you’re not accessing a summary — you’re reviewing the same document that B Lab’s auditors scrutinized for 72 hours over 3 weeks. You’re seeing the payroll stubs, the farm certifications, the utility bills, and the board resolutions. That level of openness isn’t common. It’s necessary.
We publish this report because transparency is our first product feature — not an afterthought. It’s how we prove that business can be a force for good without sacrificing rigor, scale, or honesty. If your organization is evaluating vendors, building an ESG framework, or designing a certification program, use our report as a benchmark. Compare our methodology to others. Question our assumptions. That scrutiny makes us better — and it protects the credibility of the entire B Corp movement.
There are no hidden footnotes. No asterisks that lead to disclaimers. No ‘subject to change’ clauses. What you see is what B Lab verified — and what we stand behind.
Real-World Impact, Measured Monthly
We don’t wait for annual audits to track progress. Our live impact dashboard (publicly accessible at impact.ourdomain.com) updates daily with 12 KPIs, all feeding directly from operational systems: tons of CO₂e avoided (1,284.7 as of July 18, 2024), living wage gaps closed (142 workers, $382,110 cumulative wage uplift), community dollars deployed ($214,680 YTD), and verified supplier certifications earned (27 new in Q2 2024). Each metric links to its source system: Salesforce for grant disbursements, SAP S/4HANA for emissions calculations, and Workday for compensation data. The dashboard uses the same definitions and methodologies as our B Corp report — ensuring consistency across public and internal reporting.
One example: Our water stewardship KPI tracks liters per unit shipped. In Q1 2024, it stood at 2.1 L/unit. After switching to low-moisture dyeing at SustainLoom in April, it dropped to 1.8 L/unit in Q2 — a 14.3% improvement. That data point appears identically in our live dashboard, our quarterly impact update, and page 28 of the B Corp report. No reinterpretation. No variance.
